WWRD Shawnee Preview

You have to go back to the 2011-2012 football season to find the Shawnee Braves on the top of the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division. That year the Braves had more wins (14)than any other team Clark County history! Lee Riley and I had the honor of broadcasting that game from the Football Hall of Fame stadium in Canton. Although the Braves lost in the final minutes, the entire community came together to celebrate their accomplishments in this game of inches that we call football.

The Braves desire and determination has not changed. This year Coach Meeks and his Braves plan on building a new team with hopes of returning to the playoffs. According to Coach Meeks, the philosophy remains the same: "Our goal is to work on character, perseverance, and resiliency. Once you have character, the wins will come!"

Most teams in this division lost many seniors last year and Shawnee is no exception. However, the Brave's offensive skill positions look very strong.  Alec Bennett, who had 1,885 passing yards last year will return as the quarterback. Zach Avery who rushed for 934 yards last season returns along with David Barnett who had 731 receiving yards. Second year kicker and senior Alyssa Garberich is also back.

The Braves are planning to run the spread offense as in years past as well as the 50 defense. It will only be a matter of time until we see if the hard work in and out of the weight room has paid dividends for a team that has a strong, winning tradition.
